Drupal date datetime datestamp

So, working with Date and Calendar I’ve once again run into the question about which Date type to choose for my nodes. As before I had to spend some time to find the documentation of the differences between the types, so therefore I’m now creating this post to have a direct link for future reference. Look under Date Fields here.

Oh, and also; if you don’t know the differences and don’t care to find out – go with Datetime as a standard.
